More than 800 runners from 40 corporate teams are expected to attend the Corporate 5K to benefit Special Olympics Connecticut, presented by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, in Hartford\u2019s Bushnell Park, Thursday, Aug. 9 at 6:20 p.m. Over the years, the running event has raised over $100,000 for local charities. This year\u2019s event will again benefit Special Olympics Connecticut (SOCT). The evening road race features musical entertainment, a fun post-race celebration and an extended after party. \u201cWe are pleased to sponsor this annual effort to raise money and awareness for a great cause, while also promoting a healthy lifestyle,\u201d said David R. Fusco, the event\u2019s presenting sponsor. \u201cAt this year\u2019s race we hope to find the fastest runner in Connecticut. For the second year the event will conduct an age-graded elite race where runners are given a head start based on their age.\u201d The 5-lap 5K race around Bushnell starts shortly after the Corporate 5K finishes. The race features up to 20 athletes that will be handicapped based on their age and sex with 22-28-year-old males starting last. Prize money for the top finishers totals $1,000 with the overall winner getting $500. Last year\u2019s winner, Chris Chisholm (age 50), looks to defend his title against last year\u2019s second-place finisher \u2014 William Saunders. Check jbsports.com. for handicapping information. Individuals are welcome to run or walk in the 5K (3.1 mile) event. Individuals and teams can pay an entry fee or raise money for SOCT. Team divisions include the Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s Open, and Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s Masters, for runners age 40 and older.
