Civic groups, homeowners and businesses can show their hometown pride by picking up litter in their neighborhoods during Shelton’s sixth annual Clean Sweep from April 20 to 28. The week-long event is timed to include Earth Day on April 22. Participants choose the where and when to do the cleanups during the week. Cleanup locations included public areas such as streets, parks, school grounds, and waterways. After the cleanup, the city will pick up the accumulated litter if called. Registration for Clean Sweep is not required, but is encouraged. The Shelton Anti-Litter Committee has set up an online form where people can record a cleanup year-round. Online registration and cleanup reports can be found at DontTrashShelton.org, along with answers to frequently asked questions. Cleanups done prior to April 20 can qualify as Clean Sweep projects if the cleanup is registered online. Bags and gloves now are available at the Shelton Community Center (main office) and City Hall (mayor’s office). To request a pickup from the Shelton Highways and Bridges Department, call 203-924-9277 during business hours. This year’s river cleanup, organized by a group of boaters, will be Saturday, April 27 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Sunnyside Boat Launch. For Clean Sweep information go to DontTrashShelton.org or call the Shelton conservation agent at 203-924-1555, ext. 315.
