The local Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) chapter invites the Shelton community to salute local veterans at 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at the Veterans Memorial Park (the Riverwalk) in Shelton. The Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman Chapter of DAR is teaming up with Mark Dymerski, franchise owner of Dunkin\u2019 Donuts on Howe Avenue, for the sixth annual DAR and Donuts to serve coffee and Munchkins to veterans, families, and friends at the Riverwalk in Shelton before and after the ceremony. The refreshments will be available in the Shelton Farmers Market building, with the assistance of marketmaster Guy Beardsley. American Legion Post 16 in Shelton will have a color guard and rifle squad for the opening ceremony at 10:15 a.m. At 11 there will be a gun salute in remembrance of the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, when the Armistice was declared that ended World War I. Preserving American heritage The Daughters of the American Revolution promotes love of country, preserving\u00a0 American heritage, and honoring the memory and spirit of the men and women who won American independence.
