Former Yankee Dwight \u201cDoc\u201d Gooden and his son, Dwight Gooden Jr., will play in the Heroes for Heroes Legends Game at Harbor Yard Ballpark in Bridgeport on Thursday, July 9. The Bridgeport Bluefish are hosting the game, which will feature former players of the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox. \u201cDoc\u201d Gooden will be the starting pitcher for the Yankees squad. Gooden spent 11 seasons with the Mets before joining the Yankees in 1996, where he spent two years. He also played with the Cleveland Indians, Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Devil Rays during his Major League Baseball career. All-Star and Cy Young winner Gooden is a four-time Major League All-Star as well as a three-time World Series champion. In 1984, he was named National League Rookie of the Year, and in 1985, he won the National League Cy Young Award as well as the pitching triple crown (led the league in wins, ERA and strikeouts). He pitched a no-hitter on May 14, 1996. Gooden\u2019s son, Dwight Gooden Jr., is currently active in the sports management industry. He also is a musician and has his own a clothing line. Tickets are $15 and $20 Proceeds from the Heroes for Heroes Legends Game will benefit ABRI\/Homes for the Brave, a Bridgeport-based nonprofit organization that is dedicated to improving the lives of homeless individuals, especially military veterans.
