The Parent Child Resource Center (PCRC) has set the date for its Pedal for PCRC charity bicycle ride in 2015, which begins and ends in Shelton. The fourth annual event will take place Sunday, May 31 at PerkinElmer in Shelton, with cyclists raising funds to benefit behavioral health programs that serve children and families of Shelton and the Lower Naugatuck Valley. Pedal for PCRC includes bicycle rides of 15 miles, 30 miles and 62 miles. At the PerkinElmer site, there will be a 2-mile children\u2019s ride and walk, a health fair, and an activity spree. Last year\u2019s ride attracted about 100 riders and raised over $50,000. This year, the goal is to raise $80,000. Open to all ages The event is open to all ages. Childcare will be available. The Devil\u2019s Gear Bike Shop of New Haven will donate bicycles for any children or adults interested in participating (let organizers know by May 1 if a bicycle is needed for the day). The children\u2019s ride and walk will take place on 2-mile, secure paths located in the contained parking lot. They will be open to entry during any time from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Start times The loop rides will pass through Shelton and neighboring towns, beginning and ending at PerkinElmer, 710 Bridgeport Ave. Morning start times are: \u2014 7:30 for the 62-mile ride \u2014 8:30 for the 30-mile ride \u2014 9:30 for the 15-mile ride All riding is expected to be finished by 11-11:30 a.m. in time for the wrap-up lunch at noon. Both the activity spree and health fair will take place from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. 'Thank you\u2019 barbecue A \u201cthank you\u201d barbecue will take place at noon for the course riders with lunch provided by Dave M. Grant Caterers, and beer provided by Two Roads Brewing Company (Stratford), Southport Brewing Company (Fairfield), and Black Hog Brewing Company (Oxford). Food and beverages will be sold at cost for those who are not riding. WPLR-FM will have a tent playing music at the site. How to sign up The fee for an individual rider is $100. The fee to participate in the children\u2019s ride and walk are $25 per event. The cost to attend the activity spree is $10. Admission is free to the health fair.
