The New Haven Symphony Orchestra (NHSO) will mark St. Patrick\u2019s Day with \u201cThe Emerald Isle\u201d concert Sunday, March 16 at 3 p.m. at Shelton Intermediate School. Conductor Sarah Ioannides will lead soprano Kaitlin Lusk, uilleann pipe player Andrew Thomson, tap dancer Trent Kowalik, and the NHSO in a performance of Irish music. The concert will offer a mix of contemporary celebrations of Ireland (such as Riverdance) and traditional favorites, all leading to an audience sing-a-long. 'Danny Boy' to a song from 'Titanic' Music to be performed includes: \u2014 \u201cThe Fair-Day\u201d from \u201cAn Irish Symphony\u201d (Hamilton Harty) \u2014 \u201cThe Gale\u201d from \u201cThe Brendan Voyage\u201d (Shaun Davey, composer of the film \u201dWaking Ned Devine\u201d) \u2014 Highlights from Riverdance (\u201dCaoineadh cu Chulainn\u201d with uillean pipe solo) \u2014 \u201cEnya\u201d (\u201dMay It Be\u201d) \u2014 \u201cMy Heart Will Go On\u201d (from the movie \u201cTitanic\u201d) \u2014 Irish classics \u201cThe Minstrel Boy,\u201d \u201cWater is Wide,\u201d \u201cIrish Washerwoman,\u201d \u201cCarrickfergus,\u201d \u201cFinnegan\u2019s Wake, \u201cShe moved thro the Fair, \u201cWhen Irish Eyes are Smiling\u201d and \u201cDanny Boy\u201d Tony Award-winning dancer to perform The highlight of the program will be a world premiere performance of \u201cTour de Tap,\u201d a concerto for orchestra and dancer by composer Kim Scharnberg. The piece was conceived to highlight the talents of dancer Trent Kowalik. Kowalik, now a freshman at Princeton University, began dancing at age 3 and won multiple step dancing national titles in the United States, Ireland, England, Scotland, and ultimately, the 2006 world championship. He then relocated to London\u2019s West End to perform the title role in \u201cBilly Elliot: The Musical,\u201d and ultimately he opened the show on Broadway in New York City. At age 14, he won the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Lead Actor in a Musical.
