Connecticut’s sales tax free week runs Aug. 16 through Aug. 22. Articles of clothing or footwear under $100 will be sales tax free. Some of the previous sales tax rules have changed, according to a press release issued by state Reps. Pam Staneski and Charles Ferraro. “The state used to allow you to buy items under $300 without paying a sales tax but in the final budget passed by the majority party and signed by the governor the threshold was lowered, essentially adding to the already heavy tax burden on hard-working families,” the press release states. Staneski and Ferraro voted against those tax hikes, the press statement adds. “Although I wish we could and should do more for families in Connecticut, this program is one way to give some tax relief,” Staneski said. “During these tough economic times, the back-to-school bill can be especially overwhelming.” Check the Department of Revenue Services (DRS) Web site at ct.gov/drs for information about the Connecticut Sales Tax Holiday Week.
