John and Cecelia Swetz mark 70 years together
John and Cecelia Swetz were honored on Sept. 27 for their 70th wedding anniversary at the home of James and Karen Serra.
A special ceremony of renewal of vows was officiated by Pastor Treadwell Lewis. Family and friends listed to music and danced to polkas and accordion playing.
John and Cecelia were married on Oct. 3, 1944. They lived in Shelton for most of their married life and now live in Beacon Falls. John and Cecelia have two children, the late Judy Desroches and Richard Swetz.
Attending the party was their son Richard Swetz and his wife Lynn. Grandchildren included Karen Serra and her husband Jay, Tammy Tadduni and her husband Mike, and Kevin Desroches.
Great grandchildren in attendance were Kristin, Andrew and Kaylee Serra as well as Alayna, Taylor and Justine Tadduni.
Holidays and family gatherings
John was a member of the U.S. Navy and fought in World War II. He also worked at H. K. Porter and was the best jitney driver on the East Coast, his family said. Cecelia worked many jobs to help support her family.
The couple enjoys holidays and family gatherings — not to mention occasional trips to the Mohegan Sun Casino.
