Trumbull Sikorsky Memorial dedication
The Trumbull Historical Society has announced that a permanent memorial is being erected at Abraham Nichols Park on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 1 p.m., in honor of long-time town resident, Igor Sikorsky. The memorial in Nichols Park, adjacent to the Historical Society Museum at 1856 Huntington Turnpike, is a joint endeavor of the Historical Society and the Town of Trumbull, with the support of the Sikorsky Foundation and the Sikorsky Historical Archives. Expected participants in the ceremony include three of Igor Sikorsky’s sons, Sikorsky Aircraft representatives, and local dignitaries.
The event will feature an exhibit in the museum on the many accomplishments of Igor Sikorsky (1889-1972), who invented the modern helicopter and developed other aviation breakthroughs.
