DEEP identifies man who died after boating accident

The state DEEP have identified the 55 year-old man who died following a boating accident on the Housatonic River Friday night, as Donald Bessette, of Chaplin.

On the evening of Dec. 7, Connecticut State Environmental Conservation Police responded to a boating incident that occurred at approximately 6:50 p.m. when a twenty-one foot fishing vessel with three men aboard struck a piling in the Housatonic River in Shelton. Bessette fell into the water.  The other two boaters could not locate the missing man and called 911.

Emergency personnel from the Town of Shelton responded and found the man unresponsive in the water.  He was first transported to Griffin Hospital, Derby, and was later transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital where he died on Saturday. State Environmental Conservation Police, including members of the Boating Accident Reconstruction Unit, continue to investigate the incident.
