Shelton firefighters responded to an accident Thursday night on Route 8 that involved a large truck and sports utility vehicle, with multiple injuries.

According to the Echo Hose Fire website, the emergency call came in shortly before 10 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 8. Echo Hose personnel was dispatched to Route 8 northbound between Exit 12 (Old Stratford Road) and Exit 13 (Constitution Boulevard South) for an accident with injuries.

“Squad 1 arrived first on scene, finding a two-vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer and a Chevrolet SUV, both sustaining heavy damage,” according to the Echo Hose posting.

Crews were able to stabilize the SUV and assisted EMS with removing multiple patients. All patients were transported to the hospital by Echo Hose Ambulance.

“Heavy front-end damage was sustained to the tractor-trailer, including a ruptured saddle tank,” stated the Echo Hose posting.
