Police set up checkpoint to find witnesses to hit-and-run

This evening, Shelton Police will be holding a checkpoint in the area of Howe Avenue and Bridge Street to speak with motorists who may have witnessed a hit and run two weeks ago.

On Aug. 14, at approximately 10 p.m., Shelton Police received multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting an accident with injuries between a vehicle and bicyclist at the intersection of Howe Avenue and Bridge Street.

Police and EMS responded to the scene, where a 49-year-old Milford resident was injured. Police said the man is still receiving treatment for his injuries.

Witnesses reported that the bicyclist was struck by a black vehicle that was traveling south on Howe Avenue. Witnesses reported that the vehicle involved in the accident fled the scene over the Derby-Shelton Bridge.

The Shelton Police Department Traffic Division is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the above mention vehicle’s owner or operator as it is also believed to be present at the time of the accident.
