It is a small house directly on the Housatonic River, with homes close to it on both sides.
Shelton firefighters responded to a fire call at slightly before 8 p.m. Responders came from all four Shelton volunteer fire companies — Echo House, Huntington, Pine Rock Park, and White Hills.
Nick Verdicchio, Shelton Fire Department spokesman, said about 25 firefighters were at the scene. The home was unoccupied when the fire started. A dog inside the house was killed. No residents or firefighters were injured in the blaze.
The house is in The Maples, a waterfront residential community near Indian Well State Park.
Editor’s Note: The fire-damaged house is at 143 Indian Well Road. It had been incorrectly identified as 145 Indian Well Road in the past; we regret the error and any confusion it may have caused.
