Shelton man arrested for illegal assault weapon

A Shelton man was arrested Thursday for illegal possession of an assault weapon.

Police said they responded to the Shelton Road home of Michael Soda,58, for a domestic disturbance on Jan. 11. They seized all of Soda's weapons, due to threats he made.

Detective Ben Trabka said police found that one of the rifles was a banned assault rifle.  The rifle was a Norinco brand AK-47 in 7.62 x 39 mm assault rifle, which had several features added to make it a banned weapon.

Soda turned himself in on Jan. 24 after learning there was a warrant for his arrest. He was charged with two counts of disorderly conduct and one count of illegal possession of an assault weapon. He was set to appear in court Friday.
