(UPDATE) 69-year-old woman killed in River rd. head on collision

A 69-year-old Shelton woman was killed in a car accident involving two vehicles on River rd. early Friday afternoon.
At approximately 1:30 PM the Shelton Police received several 911 calls regarding a two-car head on collision that occurred on River Road in front of the Sports Center of CT.
Samantha Monaco,23, of Shelton and Rosemarie Dwyer, 69 also of Shelton were involved in the crash. It has not been clarified which driver was driving which vehicle shown in the photos from the scene.
According to a statement from Detective Bango, Monaco was transported to Bridgeport Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Dwyer was also transported to Bridgeport Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The Shelton Police Traffic Division Reconstruction Team are continuing to investigate the crash. No enforcement action has been taken at this time.

Part of River Road between Murphy's Lane and Long Hill Ave. remain closed following a serious car accident that took place this afternoon.
There has been no information released on the physical state of those involved in the accident, but Detective Richard Bango of the Shelton Police said an update will soon be made available.
A Silver Honda and Blue BMW were the only two cars on the scene, but it is not clear if there were more drivers involved at this time.
Police are currently examining the crash scene, which is located next to the Sports Center of Connecticut at 784 River Road.
