A 69-year-old Shelton woman was killed in a car accident involving two vehicles on River rd. early last Friday afternoon.

At approximately 1:30 PM on May 6, Shelton Police received several 911 calls regarding a two-car head on collision that occurred on River Road in front of the Sports Center of CT.

Samantha Monaco, 23, of Shelton and Rosemarie Dwyer, 69, also of Shelton were involved in the crash. It has not been clarified which driver was driving which vehicle shown in the photos from the scene.

Shelton Police and local firefighters blocked off a portion of River Rd. for a part of the afternoon.

According to a statement from Detective Bango, Monaco was transported to Bridgeport Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Dwyer was also transported to Bridgeport Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Bango confirmed Monaco was charged with, “engaging police in pursuit, two counts of failure to obey a traffic control signal, reckless driving, five counts of failure to obey a stop sign, and no insurance on Oct. 20. Bond was $1,500," back in 2015.

No law enforcement action has been taken at this time.

The Shelton Police Traffic Division Reconstruction Team are continuing to investigate the crash.
