Connecticut gas prices continue to drop
Because of declining gas prices, Connecticut has moved out of the top 12 list of states with the highest gas prices in the nation.
Today (August 8), the Nutmeg State has moved to the 14th spot from the 12th spot in the list of states with the highest gas prices. Other than New York and the District of Columbia, the most expensive states for gas generally are in the West.
Average gas prices in Connecticut are $2.24 today (Aug. 8), down $.04 cents compared to last week; down $.18 cents compared to last month; and down $.55 cents compared this time last year. On the national level, a gallon of gas averages $2.12 today, down a penny compared to last week; down $.13 cents compared to last month and down $.49 cents compared to this time last year.
Abundant supplies have contributed to lower gas prices across the country. Prices dropped in 38 states and Washington DC in the past week, but were largely offset by increases in several Midwestern states. Despite this increase in those 12 states, prices still remain lower in every state compared to one year ago.
Gas prices in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast continue to drop at a steady rate with prices across the region falling a few cents over the past week. No state in the region is in the top-ten price list and three — New Jersey, Virginia, and Delaware — are now below $2 a gallon.
The average price of gas peaked in Connecticut at around $2.47 in mid-June while nationally the price peaked at $2.38 around the same time.
