Operation Fuel accepting energy assistance applications
Operation Fuel and its statewide network of fuel banks will begin taking energy assistance applications from Connecticut households that are in danger of having their utility services terminated.
Energy affordability is a year-round problem for more than 313,000 Connecticut households. The annual winter moratorium, which prevents households from having their electricity and gas shut off, ended on May 1 and doesn’t resume until Nov. 1, 2016.
“Operation Fuel wants to ensure that the most vulnerable households are able to keep their utility services on. Lack of electricity can be very unhealthy during hot weather, especially for young children, the elderly and those with health issues. Living without electricity also means not having lights, hot water and the ability to refrigerate and cook food,” explained Operation Fuel’s Executive Director Karen Adamson.
Operation Fuel is Connecticut’s only statewide non-profit energy assistance program. This past fiscal year, which ended June 30, Operation Fuel provided over $3.14 million in energy assistance to more than 7,650 households. This includes $1.1 million in energy assistance that was given out last summer.

Operation Fuel is a private, nonprofit program that provides emergency energy assistance year-round through its statewide network of fuel banks to lower-income working families and individuals, the elderly, and disabled individuals who are in financial crisis.
