Laura Mocciola, a rising sophomore at Sacred Heart Academy in Hamden, attended the 2015 Genius Olympiad hosted at the State University of New York at Oswego.

She was a Connecticut representative from the Connecticut Science and Engineering Fair.

Genius Olympiad is an international high school project competition focusing on environmental issues. Laura’s science project, The Effects of Grey Water on a Variety of Grass Species, earned honorable mention. Her project also earned first place in the freshman category at her school science fair, second honors at the Connecticut Science and Engineering Fair, second place Environmental Sciences Award with CACIWC, finalist in the Energize CT/eesmarts Future Sustainability Award category, the Meyerand Young Woman Scientist Award and the Connecticut Nurserymen’s Foundation Award.
