SATURDAY: Shelton High robotics team competes in state championship
The Shelton High School robotics team, the Gaelhawks, will compete in the state championship on Saturday, May 16 at Berlin High School.
The team and their robot, named Talon XVI, has competed in the 2015 First Robotics Competition’s (FRC) Recycle Rush challenge throughout the winter season.
The Gaelhawks are scheduled to compete all day Saturday. Matches should begin at 8:30 a.m. and continue throughout the day, with tournament rounds beginning at 12:30 p.m. Admission is free to the public and all ages are invited to attend.
Attended world competition
This year’s team also qualified for the FRC world championship in St. Louis and the New England district championship in Worcester, Mass., with New England district wins at competitions in Waterbury, Hartford, and Dartmouth, Mass.
The team also won the Chairman’s Award at the Hartford competition.

Now in its 17th year
The Shelton High School robotics team is in its 17th year of operation and promotes the mission of “advancing the excitement of science and technology in our school and community.”
The team is supported by the Shelton Board of Education, UTC Sikorsky, OEM Controls, Boeing, ATT Connecticut, Intuitive Surgical, Landmark Transportation, IEEE, Cooper Surgical, and Ametek/Hayden Kirk.
