Members of the Shelton High School boys soccer team take a break for a photo after loading a truck with used clothing donations as part of a fund-raising effort.

On Sept. 26, some members of the team gathered to move the donated items from a storage container at Cube Smart on Bridgeport Avenue to an AmeriServe USA box truck.

The donations filled the truck, and initial estimates were 4,000 to 5,000 pounds of items were collected.

AmeriServe USA collects the items that will be recycled, sold to thrift stores or given to people in poor countries as part of fund-raising efforts with school groups.

Members of the boys soccer team, assisted by supporters such as parents, collected gently-used clothes, linens, shoes, pocketbooks and stuffed animals during the drive.
