Shelton High student Alexandria Gumbs earns a scholarship
Alexandria R. Gumbs, a resident of Shelton and student at Shelton High School, is one of 44 Connecticut high school seniors who have been awarded a Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship. To honor this year’s recipients, elected officials recently joined students and Comcast representatives at a special recognition ceremony at the state Capitol.
Each year, Comcast works with principals and guidance counselors to recognize the best and the brightest high school seniors for their community service, academic performance and leadership skills.
The program provides one-time $1,000 scholarships to students who strive to achieve their potential, who are catalysts for positive change in their communities, who are involved in their schools, and who serve as models for their fellow students.
The Comcast Foundation has awarded approximately $2 million in scholarships to nearly 2,000 high school seniors across the United States for the 2014-15 school year, with $53,000 given out to 44 students in Connecticut.
