Budding Shelton High journalists attend convention

The members of the Gael Winds student newspaper of Shelton High School got lessons in journalism recently.

They took part in the Revolution Starts Here Journalism Education Association/National Scholastic Press Association Fall National High School Journalism Convention from Nov. 14-17.

Twenty-four members the Gael Winds, accompanied by their adviser and journalism teacher, Carolyn Finley, had the chance to take part in this educational opportunity.

Sessions on many news-related topics

The conference included sessions on topics ranging from strategies for improving news and feature stories, writing compelling editorials, incorporating social media to promote one’s print and online publications and shooting effective footage and photos.

Students also had the opportunity to speak with professionals in the field at a trade show hosted by the convention.

'To the next level'

“While the students headed to the convention with a sense of pride about their publication, they returned to Shelton High energized and invigorated, prepared to take their nationally award-winning paper to the next level,” Finley wrote on the newspaper’s website.
