Shelton students learn about media and arts careers

Shelton Intermediate School hosted its first JAM Day on April 24 to celebrate journalism, arts and media in the community.

During the event, students were able to learn about various careers in the fields of journalism, performance and visual arts, and media.

Seventh and eighth grader listened to presenters speak about their experiences in their related fields and the paths that led them to success.

Guest speakers included Sean Barker, sports editor of The New Haven Register, Middletown Press and (Torrington) Register-Citizen; Seth Davis, CBS Sports college basketball studio analyst, Sports Illustrated senior writer, and author; David Merrill, artist; and Aleta Miner, associate editor of Shelton Life community and business news.

Also, Joseph Morelli, scholastic sports editor of The New Haven Register; Bob Moseley, author of Out of Bounds; Fred Ruggio, editor of Shelton Life; and Gary Scarpa, director of Center Stage Theatre.
