Speaker: Keep the ‘momentum’ on school security upgrades

Beth Gabriel, a school parent and city Public Improvement Building Committee member, urged the Board of Aldermen to continue the “momentum” to implement security measures in the schools.

Gabriel said there has been “a little hang-up” when it comes to signing contracts to install ballistic security film on windows and do environmental remediation work. “I want to keep this moving,” she said.

Mayor Mark Lauretti said the city will pay for certain enhancements, such as new security camera systems, but it’s up the Board of Education to fund the window film. “That’s their initiative,” he said.
