St. Joseph School in Shelton plans open house; Meet the new principal

St. Joseph School in Shelton will host an open house Sunday, Jan. 25 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The event will present a chance for prospective student families and community residents to meet the new school principal, Stephen Anderson.

Prior to coming to St. Joseph last year, Anderson worked for 30 years in the Connecticut public schools, including as a principal.

In 2007, Anderson was named Connecticut’s Principal of the Year. In 2014, he was honored by the Peace Islands Institute as Educator of the Year.

Anderson has a reputation as a hands-on educator and has introduced daily principal classroom visits with themed activities, a specialized math program for eighth graders, and a school-wide reading initiative.

Having had a Catholic education from grammar school through college and having worked closely with his parish’s home school organization, Anderson brings a comprehension of the differences between public and Catholic schools.

“Consistent accountability for skills such as maintaining proper uniform, completing all assigned homework, and greeting people properly carry graduates successfully through life,” he said.
