Student in math, science honor societies

Abigail Kelly of Shelton was inducted to honor societies at Sacred Heart Academy.

Abigail, a junior, was named to the chapter of the Science National Honor Society (SNHS), and the Mu Alpha Theta, the National Mathematics Honor Society.

The members of SNHS meet strict requirements of grade point average and science class enrollment to qualify for membership. SNHS is active in tutoring, hosting Mole Day activities, and running the school science fair in February. The induction was held in a joint ceremony with that of Mu Alpha Theta, the Sacred Heart Academy Mathematics Honor Society.

Members of Mu Alpha Theta academically qualified juniors and seniors who maintain strict grade point average requirements and excel in high level math courses. Current junior are encouraged to enter a math research project to the SHA Science Fair in February, and some will go on to the CT Science Fair in March. Members participate in Math League, a group that competes in the American Mathematics Contest (AMC) and the New England Math League, and are active in the Study Buddy Tutoring Program, Open House and school-wide Pi Day activities.
