The Academy is pleased to announce this year\u2019s winners: Freshmen First: Vivian Wang (North Branford) Second: Catherine Herrick (Sandy Hook) Third: Katie Gray (Oxford) Honorable Mention: Swathi Jacob (Southington), Gabriela Perez (Guilford), Brigid Tesla\u00a0(Bethany) Sophomores First: Eunji Lee (Trumbull) and Priya Patel (Derby) Tied for Second: \u00a0Ashley Amarante (Wallingford) and Laura Mocciola (Shelton) Tied for Third: Madison Brenchak (Seymour) & Jiwon Jeong (Hamden) and Audrey Seyfried\u00a0(Milford) Honorable Mention: Courtney Clarkin (Ivoryton) and Meredith McConnell (Branford) &\u00a0Roselynn Thattil (Monroe) Senior Division First: Elizabeth Lopreiato (New Britain) The Top 3 in each division will be heading to the Connecticut Science and Engineering Fair\u00a0(CSEF) at Quinnipiac University in March. CSEF, a yearly, statewide science and engineering\u00a0fair provides a forum for middle and high school students to showcase their scientific prowess. The event helps attract young people to careers in science and engineering while developing skills essential to critical thinking. More than 12,000 students representing 127 schools compete\u00a0for 700 coveted spaces at the statewide science and engineering fair. Over the years the Sacred Heart Academy Science Department has received national and local\u00a0attention for the school\u2019s outstanding and innovative science programs, particularly the cutting\u00a0edge biotechnology program. Founded in 1946 by the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Sacred Heart successfully\u00a0prepares young women in grades 9 \u2013 12 for learning, service, and achievement in a global society. Sacred Heart Academy welcomes 500 students from more than 80 schools and 60 towns in Connecticut and is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
