Obituary: Albert D. Zrelak, 81, of Stratford
Albert D. Zrelak, age 81, of Stratford, beloved husband of Mary Tkacs Zrelak, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Albert, a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War was born in Bridgeport to the late Michael and Anna (Mayernick) Zrelak and has been a life long area resident.
He retired from Sikorsky Aircraft, after forty-six years, and had also worked for U.S. Baird Corp. Albert was stationed with the Army in Fort Desert Rock, Nevada, where he witnessed an Atomic Bomb blast.
He was an avid fan of the U-Conn Women’s Basketball team, and enjoyed his garden, but most of all loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and was involved with all of their endeavors.
Survivors in addition to his beloved wife, include his son, Darren Zrelak of Stratford, 4 daughters, Debra Syren and her husband Phil of California, Laura Dempsey and her husband John of Stratford, DeeDee Zrelak of Shelton, and Dawn Zrelak of Stratford, his 3 cherished grandchildren, Shannon Dempsey of NY, J.J. and James Dempsey both of Stratford, 2 sisters, Roseanne Reiner and her husband Ernest, and Margaret Yurcisin all of Monroe, a brother, George Zrelak and his wife Barbara of Seymour, sister-in-law, Anna McNemar, brother-in-law, Michael Tkacs and his wife Annette, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by his brothers, John, Stephen, Frank and William and a sister, Mary Carter. Albert will be forever remembered and forever missed by his loving family and friends.
The Zrelak family would like to thank his very special caregiver Rosette, for her kind and loving care, and for making the last few months peaceful and comfortable for Albert and his family.
Funeral services will take place on Saturday, August 2nd at 9:15 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford, and at 10 a.m. in Holy Name of Jesus Church, Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Friday from 4-7 p.m.
