William (Bill) M. Wright, 89, former employee of Curtiss-Ryan Honda in Shelton
Mr. Wright was born July 6, 1923 in Aylesford, Nova Scotia, Canada to Molyneux Wright and Gladys Sullivan.
Bill grew up in Bridgeport, CT. and graduated from Warren Harding High School. He attended University of Bridgeport. He joined the United States Army in 1943 and served in the European Theatre of Operation. He was very proud of his military service and shared infinite stories with his family of his days in WW II, from the time he was in boot camp in Texas to coming home on a ship from Europe and hearing about the passing of his own Dad.
Bill was past commander of American Legion Post 34 in Milford, CT. He enjoyed and faithfully served as a deacon for a number of years at Berean Assembly of God in Milford, CT where he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a man of strong faith who had a kind word and a smiling face for everyone he met. He made quick friends wherever he went.
Mr. Wright worked with Lycoming Division of AVCO Corporation from 1952 until retirement in 1987. He later enjoyed working for 10 years with Curtiss-Ryan Honda in Shelton, CT until he and his wife moved to Gainesville, Florida thirteen years ago.
He was passionate about the game of golf and was so thrilled that he could pass on that same love of the game to his son, sons-in-law, and grandsons. That is one of his many legacies to his family. Also he had been an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox since he was eight years old. He loved telling the story of seeing Babe Ruth play.
William is preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Margaret; two children, James Molyneux and Joann Lynn; brothers, George, Donald, and John; sisters, Agnes, Marie, Dorothy, and Edith; son-in-law, Michael J. Donovan Sr. and grandson Matthew Wright Donovan.
William is survived by his daughters, Judi Donovan of Gainesville, FL, Janice (Chuck) Carroll of Londonberry , NH and Rebecca (Ed) Leavy of East Haven, CT; son, William M. (Amy) Wright, II of Chesapeake, VA; and his loving brother, Harold “Bud” Wright (Cathy) of Murrells Inlet, SC. “Gramps” will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Michael (Sheila) Donovan, Jennifer (Dan) Eastman, Scott Carroll, Michelle Donovan, Kristin Donovan, Lisa (Duston) Blanchette, Shannon (Eric) Charette, Sherrianne (John) Wagner, Katie (Victor) Ortiz, Zachary Leavy, Joshua (Carina) Wright, and Jeremiah Wright; great- grandchildren, Ryan (Katelynn), Amanda, Adam, Shawn, Racquelle, David Michael, Hunter, Samuel, Grace, Victor Anthony, William G., William J., Lucas, and Ethan; and several nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his dear friend of over 50 years, George Tuscaeff of Brooksville, FL, and neighbor and fellow WW II veteran, Dominic Moretti.
Funeral Services with full military honors for Mr. Wright will be held Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 10:00am in the chapel of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 NW 143rd St. with Rev. John DiLeo officiating. Interment will follow in Newberry Cemetery. In honor of Mr. Wright’s Scottish heritage, he requested the interment service include a bagpiper. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 6, 2012 from 5:00-7:00 at the funeral home.
