To the Editor:

On Oct. 5, mayoral candidate David Eldridge was on WICC and said, “So many people on (Mayor Mark Lauretti’s) side that get elected on the Board of Education they really don’t have the interest of the school system at heart” and “there is a good percentage of people that run on Mark‘s ticket for education are all builders so I question their sincerity and what their efforts are.”

To question my sincerity about the children is far from the truth. As chair of the Teaching & Learning Committee, I hit the ground running began looking at the scores, visited classrooms, heard from teachers as well as administrators needs, reviewed curriculum and gave the support to pilot and purchase new programs.

This past summer, boxes of new curriculum and supportive supplies were delivered to our K-8 schools. Students and teachers now have the materials needed to achieve further student progress and success. This is clearly just one example of Shelton Public Schools moving in the right direction for our educational system.

Additionally, it is important to know that the Republican BOE members are also working with the new central office administration and thus have rebuilt the trust and open line of communication with the city that the past board destroyed. These same people who crippled those relationships are the people David stated he has “surrounded himself with” during the interview on WICC.

Now does that sound like the actions of “builders” that don’t have the interest of the school system at heart? Lastly if builders are not sincere people, then why is David Eldridge’s biggest contributor to his campaign a builder? He should have done his research.
