To the Editor:

Dave Eldridge’s racist remarks are troubling. His explanation is even more troubling. “I have matured” is hardly a satisfactory reason for his anti-minority statements.

We will never know how many minorities may have been prejudiced by his subsequent actions as a policeman until he “matured.” He took an oath as a policeman to protect all the people, not just the white people. And “holding himself accountable” hardly makes his inappropriate comments acceptable.

Further troubling is the Democrat Party chairman’s excuses which clearly tolerate such inappropriate racist behavior because Dave is now their candidate. This is and has been illegal behavior and voters must hold users of such double standards accountable.

Eldridge questions the timing of this revelation, but he has no one to blame but himself. After professing transparency in government, he conveniently forgets to reveal this important detail of his background. Then comes the coverup … he will appoint a diversity committee. Yeah.

While Eldridge makes future promises, Chief Shawn Sequeira and Mayor Lauretti have already transitioned the formerly all-white Shelton Police Department to a diverse and accredited department that has been recognized by the NAACP and recertified by the State of Connecticut.

Think about it … what others envision, we have accomplished.
