LETTER: ‘Generosity of our community’ boosts Shelton's Post Prom
On May 16, the Shelton High School Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) once again hosted the annual Post Prom.
This event is held immediately after the prom as a way of keeping our kids safe during those potentially dangerous hours.
The Post Prom is a gift from the PTSO and is free to all eligible students. The event is open to all juniors and seniors, regardless of whether or not they attend the prom.
For the last several years the Post Prom has been held at the Sports Center of Connecticut on River Road in Shelton. Students are able to enjoy all the activities available at the Sports Center.
This is a costly event that is made possible by the generosity of our community. Thousands of dollars are donated by local businesses as well as Shelton residents.
In addition to monetary donations, Shelton businesses donate all the food as well as prizes for the raffle, which is also free to students.
On behalf of the PTSO Post Prom Committee, I would like to thank and publicly acknowledge the Shelton business community for their continued support and generosity over the years.
I would also like to thank the Shelton families who donate, as well as the PTSO volunteers that fund raise, decorate, pick up food and stay awake all night to chaperone the event.
Lastly I would like to thank the students that attended. This year there was a record number of 500 attendees. The students were well behaved, pleasant and respectful.
I believe this to be a reflection on their parents, teachers, coaches, faculty advisors, religious leaders and the community at large.
Let’s take a minute and reflect on the fact that Shelton really is a great place to live and/or work. Successful events like this one are only possible through the generosity and support of the community.
