Letter: Get the vote out

To the Editor:

The freedom we cherish, want and need to be successful in life is sometimes a forgotten asset by the citizens of the USA. Freedom is not free. In our country's history we have been at war or in a military conflict for 220 of our 240 years. This is not by design but necessity to corral and stop those who would like to force us to give up the freedoms we hold dear to us that are clearly spelled out in the documents our forefathers prepared, signed and died defending.

Our military continues to fight around the world and we need to support them with elected officials who believe in the USA and all it stands for.

One of our greatest freedoms is to freely pick and choose those persons who we wish to represent us in our local, state and federal governments.

The next date to choose the candidates who will be on the November 2018 ballot is on Connecticut' Primary Day, Tuesday August 14. The polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and you can still get an absentee ballot by contacting the Shelton Town Clerk's Office (203-924-1555).

Only those persons who are registered to a specific party can and should vote to ensure their voice is heard.

I look forward to seeing you at the polls.

Anthony F. Simonetti, Chairman
