Letter: Public and businesses helped make Toys 4 Kids a success

To the Editor:

The partnership and sharing between TEAM Inc., local residents and businesses resulted in a wonderful holiday outcome for the Valley’s children.

In December, Toys 4 Kids provided more than 6,000 toys to 1,445 children in 747 families. Part of the distribution comprised over 200 bicycles, donated and assembled by the employees of Neopost USA.

Toy collection sites numbered more than 100 at area businesses and municipal locations in nine towns. Residents, business owners, police and fire departments, EMTs, and office holiday parties all contributed by conducting toys drives and collecting funds.

Community volunteers brought toys to our “toy store” on Main Street in Ansonia, where volunteers sorted and displayed them by age and gender.

Other volunteers helped parents to “shop” for the right holiday toys for their children. Food for the volunteers was donated by area restaurants and caterers.

The success of Toys 4 Kids depends on the help of hundreds of volunteers and kind-hearted residents and businesses throughout the region. Without that giving spirit, such results are impossible to achieve.

During these continuing difficult times, this generosity helps TEAM fight against poverty, offering relief and dignity to economically-struggling families. This work supports the core of our mission.

Thank you all who made the 2013 Toys 4 Kids drive a success. It is our honor and pleasure to work with you. We look forward to doing it again in 2014.
