Herbert J. Butler, age 95, of Stratford, passed away August 7, 2012 at The Highland Health Care Center in Cheshire, CT.
Mr. Butler was born in East Norwalk, CT to the late Herbert and Elizabeth Butler.
He retired from the New Haven Railroad and Metro North Railroad after many years of service. He was a longtime member of Port 5 Naval Veterans, where he held several offices. He was also an avid fisherman who loved to travel.
Mr. Butler was predeceased by his beloved wife, Elizabeth (Cameron) Butler.
He is survived by four sons; Bruce Butler and his wife, Phyllis of Stratford, Robert Butler of Shelton, Barry Butler and his wife, Cheryl of East Haven, and Brian Butler and his wife, Marcia of Tolland; one sister Joan Rourke of Stratford, and one brother Donald Butler of FL; three grandchildren Daniel Butler and his wife, Crystal , Shannon Butler, and Lindsay Butler; six step grandchildren, Daniel Mehlhouse and his wife, Brandy, Ronald Mehlhouse, Matthew Mehlhouse, Dana Jellison and Kane Jellison; one great granddaughter Autumn Butler; several step great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to attend his funeral services on Friday at 9:00 a.m. DIRECTLY at St. James Church 2070 Main St. Stratford. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Trumbull. Friends may call on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home 399 White Plains Rd. Trumbull.
