Obituary: Albertina (Tina) Rua Pereira, 58, of Shelton

Albertina (Tina) Rua Pereira, age 58, of Shelton, beloved wife of Deacon Gabriel A. Pereira, died peacefully, after a long and brave battle with cancer, on Saturday July 27, 2013, at her home with her loving and devoted family by her side.

Born in Gralhós, Montalegre, Portugal on September 22, 1954 she was a daughter of the late Firmino and Gloria Coelho Rua.

Tina was formerly employed for many years for Doctors Russo and Esposito at Pediatric Associates, and later went on to earn her certificate to become a medical assistant. A dedicated parishioner at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Bridgeport, she was a religious school teacher for many years and also served as coordinator for the school. She was very involved in the Emmaus and Cursilho community in Bridgeport as well as Danbury, Hartford, Naugatuck and Waterbury.

Tina was very proud of her Portuguese heritage and would often show it in the many meals she enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She could often be found tending to her garden or her flowers in the yard.  But above all she was a loving and caring person who loved her family very deeply.

Tina was at her best when she was with her two grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who will truly be missed by all who came in contact with her.

In addition to her devoted husband of 35 years, Gabe, survivors include a loving daughter, Stefanie Welch of Shelton, two cherished grandchildren, Joseph A. and Bella J. Welch, two sisters, Tina’s twin sister Laura Rua Vitorino and her husband Tiago of Trumbull and Maria Rua O’Connor of Fairfield, brother and sister-in-law, Nuno and Maria Fatima Pereira of Trumbull; nieces and nephews, James, Christopher and Matthew Vitorino, Katherine and Alison O’Connor and Nuno Jr. and Daniel Pereira; as well as several aunt, uncles, cousins and many dear friends.
