Obituary: Clifford H. Beattie, 80, of Shelton

Clifford H. Beattie, age 80, entered into eternal rest on August 22, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.

A lifelong Shelton resident, Cliff was predeceased by his parents Alexander and Bernice Cruite Beattie and his brother Franklyn Beattie formerly of Naugatuck.

Cliff is survived by his wife of 55 years Celeste Donovan Beattie and their children, Craig(Carla) Beattie of Seymour, Jayne (William) Beattie Skidmore of Englewood, Florida, Ford (Shannon) Beattie of Wrentham, Massachusetts, and their grandchildren Ciara and Donovan Beattie of Seymour, Russell and Alyssa Taylor of Florida, and Stephen, Ethan, and Ashlyn Beattie of Massachusetts.

An alumni of St. Joseph’s Grammar School, Shelton High School, and attended Quinnipiac College Business School, Cliff headed the Purchasing Departments at International Harvester in Bridgeport and C. Cowles Chloride Systems in New Haven. After retirement, he worked part-time in the Lord and Taylor’s Cash Office.

Active throughout his adult life as a Boy Scout Master for Troop #25 in Shelton and as a Soccer Coach for Shelton Youth Soccer which he helped start, Cliff took great joy in Scouting, coaching his children’s teams, and attending their baseball,soccer, basketball, and gymnastics events, as well as, his grandchildren’s events. He loved his family camping trips and vacations in Cape Cod. All who knew Cliff will remember him as the consummate gentleman and as a warm and generous person. Even the chipmunks ate peanuts right out of his hand.

Friends may greet his family on Monday from 4 to 7 PM in the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road Shelton. Friends are encourage to go directly to St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave. Shelton on Tuesday for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM. Burial will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford.
