Obituary: Georgia Patricia Paparella, 80, of Apple Valley, Calif.

Georgia Patricia Paparella, age 80, of Apple Valley, CA, a longtime resident of Shelton, peacefully entered into rest on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at the Valley Crest Memory Care facility in Apple Valley, CA with family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Michael J. Paparella, Jr.

Georgia was born in Perth Amboy, NJ on August 19, 1934, one of three children born to Morris and Sadie Fleischman. After they were married she and Michael moved to Bridgeport in 1954 then on to Shelton in 1959. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in May of 2014 with her whole family in attendance.

After graduating from St. Vincent’s Nursing School in Bridgeport, CT, Georgia worked as an L.P.N. at St. Vincent’s Hospital and later at Long Hill Convalescent Home in Shelton. Georgia was known for always commenting on how much she enjoyed her time working at the nursing home and how much she loved the residents there. She also spent many years as a volunteer with the ambulance service at the Huntington Fire House in Shelton.

Besides her family Georgia enjoyed camping, crocheting, cooking, reading and pinochle. Friends and family were treated to many wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners where both good food and love were on the menu.

After her retirement she moved to a small ranch in Crown Point, NY where she and Michael kept horses that her granddaughter rode in various shows and fairs which she always loved attending.

Along with her husband Michael, Georgia is survived by her four children, Michael Paparella, III of Great Falls, MT, David Paparella of Apple Valley, CA, Paul Paparella of Paradise Valley, AZ and Roseanne Simanavage of Crown Point, NY as well as her 9 grandchildren Sarah, Joseph, Ethan, Wendy, John, Matthew, Suzanne, Steve and Katie. She was predeceased by her parents as well as her brother Philip and her sister Bernice.

A memorial service celebrating Georgia’s life will be held at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Apple Valley, CA at a date to be determined.
