Obituary: Michael J. Paparella Jr., 85, of Apple Valley, Calif., fomerly of Shelton

Michael J. Paparella Jr., age 85, of Apple Valley, CA, a longtime resident of Shelton, CT peacefully entered into rest on June 21, 2016 at Valley Crest Memory Care in Apple Valley, CA.

He was the beloved husband of Georgia P. Fleischman Paparella.

Michael was born in Schenectady, NY on December 16, 1930, one of three children born to Michael, Sr. and Gemma D’Angelo Paparella. He moved to Shelton in 1959.

They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in May 2014 before Georgia passed away later that year.

He is survived by his four children, Michael Paparella, III of Great Falls, MT, David Paparella of Apple Valley, CA, Paul Paparella of Paradise Valley, AZ and Roseanne Simanavage of Crown Point, NY. In addition he was survived by his grandchildren Suzanne, Steve, Katie, Ethan, Matthew, Wendy, John, Sarah and Joey. He is survived by his sister, Virginia Smith of Schenectady, NY.

He was predeceased by his parents as well as his brother Bernie Paparella of Coral Gables, FL.

After high school Michael entered the Navy and served proudly on the U.S.S. Lake Champlain during the Korean War. He was introduced to Georgia just before his final deployment and shortly after they were married. They moved to Bridgeport, CT in 1956 and he was soon hired at Sikorsky Aircraft. They moved to Shelton in 1959 where they happily made their home for nearly fifty years.

Michael was a proud volunteer at Huntington Fire Dept. Co #3. He also volunteered with the ambulance service in Huntington and later for the fire police.

After retiring they moved to Crown Point, NY with their beloved Labrador, Jennifer. They enjoyed camping, fishing and raising horses on their Promiseland Ranch. Most recently Michael enjoyed visiting with family and singing old hymns at Valley Crest every Tuesday morning.

A memorial service for both Michael and Georgia will be celebrated on Saturday, July 9th, at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Apple Valley, CA followed by interment in the Garden of Valor.
