The right lane of travel remains closed. All other lanes have reopened to traffic.

Officials on scene around 10:37 p.m. said Connecticut State Police would soon reopen the left lane to traffic.

UPDATE: 6:48 P.M.

Route 8 south is now closed between Exit 13 and Exit 12 because of the crash with the overturned vehicle.

No confirmation yet on any injuries of those involved in the incident.

The vehicle appeared to have gone off the side of the highway, crashed through a guardrail, took out a sign and dropped roughly 20 feet down an embankment.

Traffic is backed up for more than a mile leading up to the crash.

A fire official on scene said the highway was expected to be shut down for “an extended period of time.”

Officials on scene around 10:37 p.m. said Connecticut State Police are expected to reopen the left lane to traffic within a few minutes.

SHELTON — Crews are working on a crash where a vehicle overturned on Route 8 south in Shelton Saturday night.

The incident was first reported shortly after 6 p.m.

The state Department of Transportation indicated that the overturned vehicle is on Route 8 south between Exit 13 and Exit 12. CTDOT said the right lane is closed to traffic as first responders handle the crash.

“Route 8 Southbound, Exit 12 in the town of Shelton. Right lane closure while Troopers investigate a motor vehicle accident. Expect delays if traveling in or around the area,” the Connecticut State Police said in a Twitter post around 6:30 p.m.

Initial dispatch reports indicated that the vehicle was down an embankment with possible entrapment.
