State Rep. Ben McGorty of Shelton has been appointed to three committees for the upcoming legislative session — Appropriations, Environment, and Judiciary.

McGorty, a Republican, was first elected in a July 22 special election and then won a full two-year term in November. He represents almost half of Shelton.

The powerful budget-writing Appropriations Committee oversees appropriations; the budgets of state agencies; state employees’ salaries, benefits, retirement and collective bargaining agreements; and teacher retirement pensions.

“I look forward to the many challenges ahead as we work to improve our state’s economy and bring jobs back to our communities,” McGorty said.
