Shelton High’s boys volleyball team pulled out a hard-fought 3-2 (25-22, 15-25, 23-25, 25-23, 15-7) win over host Masuk of Monroe on Friday night.

The Gaels, who defeated another South-West Conference team – Newtown – two days earlier, won their second-consecutive match that went the full five games.

Against Masuk, Erik Kocur had 12 kills and six digs, Grant Fevrier compiled 16 kills and 10 digs, and Rhodric McCurdy racked up 49 assists to go along with six digs and a pair of kills.

Shelton closed out the win on a T.J. Nicholas kill, moments after Masuk’s Matthew Hornak got a piece of a kill attempt and Michael Snajder dove to keep the ball in play. J.J. Williams led the Panthers with 18 kills and four blocks, Snajder compiled 11 kills, and Hornak had five blocks and five kills.

The Gaels improved to 8-1 overall and the Panthers dropped to 5-5.
