The Rock Gold of Newton, Pa., salvaged the final game of a four-game series last weekend with a 1-0 victory over the previously-unbeaten Stratford Brakettes at Frank DeLuca Hall of Fame Field.
The Brakettes won the first three games by scores of 5-2, 8-2 and 11-3.
Pitcher Chelsea Whitcomb stopped the Brakettes on three hits to record the victory for the Rock Gold, currently ranked No. 8 in the country for 18U Gold teams. Losing pitcher Tatum Buckley (2-1) also allowed only three hits and struck out seven but she was victimized by a first-inning unearned run in the loss, which snapped a 37-game win streak over two years.
