Football: Falcons finish strong
The Milford Academy Falcons finished their 2013 football season with back-to-back wins over Army JV (55-22) and Navy JV (36-23), finishing the season with nine victories.
This marks the Falcons 10th consecutive winning season (94-23, .803) in their 10-year anniversary in New Berlin, N.Y. The Falcons have played 49 different colleges and junior colleges over the past 10 years.
Coached by Ansonia High alum Bill Chaplick, Milford Academy has launched many successful football careers since moving to New Berlin, N.Y. in 2003, including 13 NFL players and 250 1-A and 1-AA Players. Milford Academy has averaged over 15 players in college bowl games each year over the past 10 years and has had many All-American football players, including: four D-IA All-Americans — Fred Russell, University of Iowa, St. Louis Rams; LeSean McCoy, University of Pittsburgh, Philadelphia Eagles, All-Pro; Shonn Greene, University of Iowa, Doak Walker Award winner, NY Jets and Tennessee Titans; Tyler Matakevich, Temple University All-American. D-IAA All-Americans include Dominique Williams, an All-American at Wagner University. The Falcons have 15 early 1-A offers this season already, including Colorado, Syracuse, Ohio State, Rutgers (3), Arizona, Arkansas, UConn (3), USF, FIU, Buffalo, Delaware, Robert Morris, Marshall and Temple (2).
The Falcons currently have 49 active players in 1-A and 48 in 1-AA. Twenty of their former players will play participate in college bowl games in 2013-14, representing 13 colleges in 11 bowls. Former Falcon Cameron Artis-Payne will suit up for Auburn in the national championship game.
