Men's Softball: Rex Marine Center sweeps

2015 Second Season titleist Rex Marine Center (formerly Ball Busters) launched its 2016 Valley Independent League season with a sweep over Militia.

Jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, Rex rolled to a 15-3 triumph in the opener.

Militia plated single tallies in the second and third to cut the gap to 5-2. That was as close as it would get, as Rex produced a four spot in the bottom of the third and, after the rivals traded single runs in the fourth, Rex wrapped up the win with a five-run fifth.

Standouts offensively were Dave Gallo with three hits, including an inside-the-park home run and Jeff Bryce, also with three hits. John Sinchak was winning pitcher.

Militia revved up their offense in the nightcap but Rex managed to outlast them in a 16-14 slugfest.

Six runs in the top of the first and two more in the top of the second gave Rex an early 8-0 cushion.

After Militia pushed across six in the bottom of the second, Rex answered with six in their portion of the third to regain an eight run lead 14-6.

Militia responded with three in the home half of the third before enjoying a five-run fourth to knot the count at 14. Rex's defense then shut down the Militia bats the rest of the way, while their offense tacked on single tallies in the fifth and seventh to squeak out the win.

Bryce completed a perfect night at the plate by going 4-for-4 to lead the victors' attack. Wayne Britto, Steve Donnarummo, Joe Peccerillo, Gallo and Sinchak, who again twirled the win, all banged out three hits apiece.

Other action saw A1 Plus Exterior and Domino's Pizza splitting a pair and defending regular-season champion Porky's Cafe/Mutiny taking two from The Diamond Kings..

A1 captured their opener 10-4 before Domino's rebounded for a 15-4 triumph in the nightcap.

Porky's/ Mutiny registered 15-3 and 3-1 wins.
