Porky's sweeps doubleheader

After registering a 14-1 triumph over Kut-Rite Hair Shop in the opener of their Valley Independent Softball League doubleheader, Porky’s Cafe (3-3, DI) scored six times in the second inning and four times in the third to build an early 10-0 cushion en route to a 13-3 nightcap win.

Lou Cutaneo enjoyed a 4-for-4 outing to spark the winning offense.

Sean Qualey banged out three hits, while Anthony Savo had a pair of base hits and drove in three runs.

Dave Arroyo’s 3-for-3 was best for Kut-Rite (5-5, DII).

Boland’s Cafe (4-2, DI) swept its interdivisional twin bill with Pennsylvania Steel (8-4, DII), 11-0 and 11-3.

In another crossover doubleheader, Haynes Materials (6-4, DII) dominated Choice Design Remodeling 14-2 in the opener.

The Designers (4-6, DIII) then spotted Haynes five first-inning runs before rebounding to capture the nightcap, 14-7.

The Meeting Place Restaurant (2-3, DII), who have been the most snake-bitten by weather conditions, beat the rain and Jesse’s Barber Shop (3-4, DII) 13-10 before Mother Nature had her way and made playing conditions treacherous — forcing cancellation of the rest of the evening’s games.
