The Shelton boys’ soccer team held a dedication ceremony for Matt Horvath, a 2021 graduate who died following a watercraft accident in July prior to its varsity game on Thursday night at Finn Stadium.

Horvath’s #32 jersey was retired and given to his father Matthew.

“An Angel Among Us ~ M.A.H. Forever A Gael” signs were displayed honoring Horvath, a four-year player for coach Isaac Montalvo.

“Matt’s love and enthusiasm for soccer was undeniable,” Montalvo said. “He was a great teammate and well respected by his peers. Matt represented the team with honor and class. We are dedicating our season to Matt. He will always be in our hearts and never forgotten.”

Shelton players wore shirts emblazoned with the words: Matthew Horvath, Forever a Gael.
