Shelton High scored 135 points and placed fourth among 12 teams competing at the Shelton Invitational last Saturday.

Greens Farms Academy was first with 156, Canton came in second with 142 and Amity was third with 138. Notre Dame-West Haven, with 106, rounded out the top five.

“I’m pleased with fourth place, the kids wrestled hard,” Gaels’ head coach Bill Maloney said. “The surprise of the day was senior Aayan Mumtaz winning the 126 pound title when he pinned Weston’s Julian Schlossberg in 2:51 of the championship match.

“At 285, freshman Matt Weiner pinned Valley Regional’s Ben Falivene in 1:04 to capture the championship for a big win in his debut.”

Ray Weiner pinned Canton’s Braydon Fluckiger in 59 seconds to claim the 220 title.

Garrett Ziperstein reached the final at 113, where he lost by fall to GFA’s Nico Provo in 2:17.

Sean Rago was third at 132, earned a 7-5 decision over Amity’s Josh Cala.

Mike Monaco placed second at 152, as Masuk’s Jason Lobdell earned a 5-0 decision in the pinnacle bout.
