Simics, Doolan honored by SCC
Billy Simics and Taylor Doolan of Shelton High were named Southern Connecticut Conference Scholar Athletes of the Month for the Fall season.
The SCC Scholar Athlete of the Month program is sponsored by the Sports Center of Connecticut and recognizes student athletes who have a minimum of a B (3.0) overall and earn a varsity letter.
Student athletes also demonstrate leadership qualities by being a positive role model both on and off the field and show commitment to self-improvement and put their team before themselves.
Simics is a member of the cross country, indoor track, outdoor track and field teams. His class rank is 13 out 409 and his grade-point average is 97.67.
Other activities/accolades include: SHS cross country team captain, outdoor track and field team captain, SCC All-Academic team, Cross Country Team Scholar Athlete, CAPT Scholar, Spanish Honor Society, AP Scholar, Barton Weller nominee, SHS Honor roll, SHS Student of the Month, Barnum Festival nominee, Boy’s State attendee, Science Fair winner, second-team All-SCC Cross Country, Church Youth Group, National Honor Society, DECA, SHS School magazine, St. Michael’s Book Award, Special Olympics Torch Run.
“Billy is one of the best captains I’ve had in my 35 years of coaching,” Shelton High boys cross country coach Mike Gambardella said. “He has the ability to effectively communicate with coaches and teammates alike. He showed genuine concern for the well-being of each individual team member and understood what it takes to be successful in athletics. It has truly been a pleasure to be associated with Billy the past few years.”
A member of the girls soccer and lacrosse teams, Doolan is ranked 19th out of 409 in her class with a gpa of 96.85.

“Taylor is a fine player, coming from her commitment to excellence and to be the best version of herself she can be,” Shelton High girls soccer coach Marvin Miller said. “That commitment shows in the classroom as well. She understands how important the balance of student and athlete must be for success and because of this, she excels in both areas.”
